Hey there, fellow gamers! Considering how recently we were all so immersed in getting our hands on the original Nintendo Switch, in reality, the hype is about its successor — and we’re going to call it the Nintendo Switch 2 here. Nintendo has made it official, and though they’re holding some cards close to the chest, we have a pretty solid idea of what we can expect.
What’s New!
From everything Nintendo has revealed and teased so far, the Switch 2 appears to be a natural evolution of the original. Be a little larger, with a bigger screen — maybe about 8 inches. Unlike the original Switch’s multicolored red and blue Joy-Cons, the model featured in that teaser is an all-black affair. It’s possible the way the Joy-Cons attach may be changing, with the new system using magnets instead of the sliding rails.
Among the cooler new additions appears to be a second USB-C port, which would be incredibly useful for charging alongside using accessories. And for tabletop players who enjoy playing with friends, the Switch 2 seems to have a wider adjustable kickstand on the back, similar to the Switch OLED.
More Power and Better Performance?
And though Nintendo hasn’t revealed everything about what’s stuffed inside, it’s a good bet that the Switch 2 will be a more capable console than the one before it. That could allow for smoother gameplay and better-looking graphics, and perhaps even games that the existing Switch couldn’t handle. Some whispers suggest it may even include tech that aids in rendering games at higher fidelity, such as AI upscaling.
Playing Your Old Favorites :
Your game library just played a great hand. Nintendo has also confirmed that the Switch 2 will be backward compatible, allowing you to transfer most of your existing Nintendo Switch game library to the new platform, both physical and digital. But they also noted that some legacy titles may not run as intended.
A Mysterious New Button and Mouse Control?
The Joy-Con: Rumors suggest there will be a new square-shaped button with a ”C” on it, positioned right below the Home button. What it does remains a mystery, but some people are speculating that it might be for linking up the new model to the original Switch in some sort of dual-screen fashion, or perhaps for new accessories.
But that’s not the end of it, and there’s probably even more speculation about the Joy-Cons having mouse-like functionality! The controller incorporates an infrared sensor in it, and there’s speculation that Nintendo could use this for a more accurate control method in some games, or perhaps as a general navigation tool as well.
When Can We Get Our Hands On It?
Officially, Nintendo has said sometime in 2025 for the Switch 2 launch. And if the rumours are to be believed, we may not have long to wait, with reports of a late June release. Pre-orders are also said to begin much sooner, on or about April 2nd!
What About Games?
A new console means new games, of course! A teaser from Nintendo has teased what appears to be a new Mario Kart title. Aside from that, there have been murmurs of a new 3D Mario game and perhaps even some titles from rival platforms that could come to the Switch 2. Nintendo is also likely to be teasing “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition” titles, which means improved versions of some current games.

Final Thoughts :
The Nintendo Switch 2 is looking like a very exciting upgrade for Nintendo. It appears to be retaining the core hybrid console concept while making some nice design decisions as well as adding potential power and some new features. This one, which we’ve already seen a teaser for, is exciting stuff, and if you’re a Nintendo fan or looking for a versatile new gaming system, the possibility of this should give you something to wait for — even if the price is yet to be announced, as well as the exact launch date. “A special Nintendo Direct is scheduled for today, April 2nd, with more details coming soon.”
